All is peaceful in the kingdom of Highgrovia. King Charles and Queen Camilla have proudly announced the birth of their baby daughter, the Princess Briar-Rose and everyone is busy celebrating the news. Or are they? Unfortunately, the Lord Chamberlain has omitted to invite one person to the party - the thoroughly mad and bad fairy Carabosse. And boy, is she mad! When Carabosse discovers that the celebrations are going on without her, she vows to exact her revenge by placing a curse upon the baby Princess's head which promises that before her 18th birthday, the Princess will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die! Luckily, this being pantomime, help is at hand in the form of the Princess's three fairy godmothers, but will they be able to come up with a spell good enough to counter Carabosse's curse? Or will Carabosse's henchmen, the thoroughly stupid Wally and Willy, be able to ensure the curse is carried out? Sleeping Beauty features all the usual panto elements of dazzling Dame, joking Jester, silly skeletons, thigh-slapping Prince, song and dance, music and laughter, and the messiest icing-of-the-cake scene you'll ever see. With a new script by Sean Baker and Rod Dundee, it is classic family entertainment for Christmas and a show not to be missed. |
